Open B.Sc. Thesis"Schieferexploration im Sauerland"

18/05/2021

The Geological Institute offers a bachelor's thesis on the topic of slates in the Sauerland region. This thesis is part of a larger project and is being carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Markscheidewesen.

Description of the project:
Within the framework of the project, two bachelor's theses are to be jointly at the Institute for Mine Surveying, Mining Subsidence Engineering and Geophysics in Mining (IFM) and at the Geological Institute (GIA). Each institute supervises a bachelor's thesis, so that the works complement each other thematically.

The project focuses on the investigation of a possible mining project on slate in the Sauerland. The basis of the investigation is, among other things, existing documents based on earlier mining operations, e.g. approvals and mine plans (Dortmund mining authority) as well as information about the local geology and the deposit conditions (NRW Geological Service), which is still to be obtained. The work will mainly involve evaluating these of these existing data bases. The bachelor thesis at the IFM will concentrate on questions regarding mine surveying, while the bachelor thesis at GIA will examine the geological conditions in more detail. Among other things, these theses aim to work out if and under which conditions it could be worthwhile to mine the deposit in the future as well as which requirements have to be fulfilled, e.g. regarding the approval /operating plan procedure.

Start of the each thesis is June 2021 at the latest.
