In teaching, the Geological Institute is integrated into the degree programs Applied Geosciences and Georesource Management and the degree program Applied Geophysics. In the bachelor's programme, the geological basics, regional geology with terrain formation and sedimentology in particular are taught.

In the Master's programme, the teaching focuses on the specialisation "Energy and Mineral Resources" with courses in the areas of reservoir geology, sedimentology, seismology, portfolio management and profitability calculations of hydrocarbon deposits.

In addition to the courses in the department, modules are offered as a subsidiary subject for engineering - mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering - and natural science - biology, mathematics - courses.
